For that reason, each interaction with the host must be next level. And I'm not just talking about the outreach quality. That's just the beginning. One touchpoint. So what else matters? - The guest we recommend shows up on time, prepared - We get back to the host quickly with all the replies - When there's an issue, we proactively solve it and communicate - Our customer (the guest) promotes the episode once it goes live - We say thank you in a creative way For these reasons, many hosts actually prefer working with us and not other agencies. 2019 - “How many leads will we generate?” 2022 - “Will this help us reach our ICP?” The vehicle stayed the same. The mindset has changed. Yes, podcasts will help you grow your revenue. But no, it won't happen overnight. Whether you're starting your own branded podcast or consider appearing on others, this is the mindset you need to embody: “I know that consistently educating our target audience at scale will lead to revenue.” ^ If you don't believe this, your podcasting efforts will probably fail. But if you do believe, you'll put in the time it takes to actually see the results. You won't give up after the first month asking: “Where are my leads?” No. You will track early positive signals such as your ICP reacting to your episodes or prospects mentioning your podcast on sales calls. On top of that, you'll understand your buyers more and your message will be more concise. (Hard to put a number on this) Do this long enough and you'll start “generating leads” that already know, like, and trust you, closing at way higher rate.

You build more relationships The bottom line is this: Most of what you achieve by appearing on podcasts is challenging to measurable, yet it helps you and your business grow. Here's a story: Earlier this year, we worked with a CEO of a seed stage cybersecurity company. And they approached their podcast guesting campaign the right way. Instead of just waiting for each interview to go live, their team was proactive. After a podcast interview, they reached out to the host and suggested a couple of ways to promote the episode. (Believe it or not, 99% of guests won't do this) But with one podcast, the conversation continued even further… A few emails later, the host mentioned that their company is currently searching for a new cybersecurity provider and asked to schedule another call. Long story short, our customer (the guest) landed the biggest ARR customer from this interaction alone. (which paid for the entire campaign many times over) 🎉 Now why did this happen? Three reasons: First, our customer got prepared and, as a result, the interview went really well. Second, the interview itself established trust between the host and the guest. And third, the guest's proactiveness after the episode started a conversation that took the relationship further from “just” the host-guest dynamic. The lesson? Perceive each interview as the beginning of a potential business relationship. That way, you and your team will invest more time and effort into each podcast opportunity.. And funny enough, more people will reach out to you once the episode drops too. :)

Expanding your existing audience takes time. But it's necessary… One of the fastest ways to reach new, engaged audiences is by appearing on podcasts relevant to your industry. Why? Got invited onto a podcast as a guest? Don’t just “wing it” Here's how to prepare the RIGHT way: 👇🏻 💥 Read the podcast description This is a no-brainer, really. In the description, you'll often uncover how tactical or strategic the show is intended to be. That will help you prepare. And it takes less than 1 minute. 💥 Listen to an episode or two By listening to an episode, you'll understand the energy of the host, the pace, and the way you'll be asked questions. This, on its own, will make the conversation more natural and fun. Dedicate 30 minutes to this. Listen at 2X. Don't need to make notes. 💥 Prepare relevant stories If you decide to do just ONE thing, do this. With most podcast invitations, you'll know the topic beforehand. Prepare 2-3 relevant stories or anecdotes, so your episode is more relatable. ❌ Stop this: “You need cybersecurity because the X reason” ✅ Start this: “Here's the horror story we successfully solved for one of our enterprise clients.” 💥 Prepare your introduction Only around 1 out of 10 customers we coach have their introduction prepared. 9 out of 10 just want to “wing it”. Don't do that. Prepare the main building blocks of your career and life. Make them relatable. Practice out loud. Your introduction decides whether the listener keeps listening or not. Put the work in. 💥 Craft your CTA Have a place you send the listeners to. Whether it's just your LinkedIn profile or a website, make sure the listeners know. ❌ Stop this: “Follow me on LinkedIn.” ✅ Start this: “If you liked what we've talked about, follow me on LinkedIn. You can find me there as PATRICK - space - VENN. There are not many of us so it should be easy. Again, it's PATRICK - space - VENN. Add a connection note that you heard me on this podcast. Can't wait to talk!” So to recap… Don't just “wing” the podcast episode. Prepare. Save this post for the next time you get invited on a podcast.

Most people don't want to appear on brand new podcasts as guests. As a rule of thumb, there's nothing wrong about it… But there are exceptions: 👇 Before you decide to decline an interview opportunity, make sure you look into the 3 following areas: 💥 Who runs the podcast? Take Ryan Serhant as an example when he launched his new podcast. If you'd look at it just through the lens of how many episodes it published or when it started, you'd probably disqualify this opportunity. That wouldn't be a smart choice. Ryan and his team have a huge marketing engine behind everything they do. And although the podcast is new, they'd promote the heck out of your episode. 💥 Who are the previous guests? Let's say the podcast has only 10 episodes. Do you know at least 3-5 of the previous guests? Are they relevant in your industry? If yes, consider appearing on this podcast. Credibility by association is a real thing. 💥 Can it create win-win situations? Some new podcasts don't have huge guests. Or are not run by big names. But the host might be someone you'd like to get in touch with. Maybe they can partner with you, recommend customers, or even become clients themselves. The bottom line is this… It's never just black and white. Make sure you look into all variables before saying yes or no.

Want to secure podcast interviews? Forget about volume. Spamming hundreds of podcast hosts might have worked 5 years ago. But today? Nope. Today, the host has all the leverage. Consider this example. Imagine you publish 1 episode a week. That's 52 episodes a year. And if the podcast is any good, that's the number of pitches the host receives every week. So… The competition is huge. Luckily for you, most of the guest pitches hosts receive fall into the “spray and pray” category. (So obviously, they don't work) To cut through the noise, you MUST focus on quality. Your pitch must be relevant, personalized, and to the point. Solve this and then figure out how to increase the volume. Not the other way around. #podcastinterviews #podcastingtips
